It was 1974 when I first met Vern -WaBun Inini- and what a pleasant experience it was.  He was visiting Berlin and I, being Tuscarora, was assigned by Radio Berlin International to cover his visit.  Never had I heard the hopes and aspirations of we original people of Turtle Island articulated so clearly as that day we sat down to talk.  I previously had met his brother, Clyde, who for the first time in my adult life gave meaning to the question I had always had: Why were we Born To Be Indian?  Vern and I spent two long days discussing Native issues alone and with German supporters of AIM and with indigenous people driven from their homelands for reasons Native people of the Americas know all too well.
 Vern, WE shall meet again in Spirit World.
